A Kansas man from El Dorado has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing child sexual abuse materials. David M. Follett, 38, admitted to one count of distribution of child pornography.
Court documents state that Follett used his computer on several occasions to share child pornography with other users through a peer-to-peer filesharing network. One of the recipients was an agent with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Law enforcement later executed a search warrant at Follett’s home and found evidence of child pornography activities on his laptop.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart prosecuted the case.
“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
