A federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kansas, has indicted two federal inmates on charges of assaulting correctional employees. According to court documents, Devario Talley and Brett Roelandt, both 35 years old, were each charged with two counts of forcible assault resulting in bodily injury. The alleged incident occurred on December 26, 2025, when Talley and Roelandt reportedly attacked and injured two staff members of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation into these cases. Assistant U.S. Attorney Faiza Alhambra is prosecuting the case against Talley and Roelandt.

In other indictments announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas, Ataven Tatum, 46, from Kansas City, Kansas, was charged with one count of felon in possession of a firearm. The FBI is also investigating this case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Zabel.

Additionally, Derek Marsocci, 63, from Centerview, Missouri, was indicted on one count each of receipt and possession of child pornography. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood—a Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating resources at all levels to prosecute offenders and rescue victims (https://www.justice.gov/psc). The FBI is investigating this matter as well; Assistant U.S. Attorney Faiza Alhambra serves as prosecutor.

“An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
