A federal grand jury in Wichita has indicted David L. Mongeau, a 54-year-old farmer from Holcomb, Kansas, on charges related to insurance fraud. Mongeau is accused of filing a crop loss insurance claim and receiving payment after not disclosing the sale of thousands of bushels of wheat that he had reported as ruined. The indictment includes two counts of making a false statement and 17 counts of bank fraud or attempted bank fraud. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is conducting the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is prosecuting the case.

In separate indictments, five Mexican nationals residing illegally in the United States have been charged with unlawful reentry after deportation. Edgar Cuellar-Ortega, 45; Miguel Modesto-Cesario, 26; Lazaro Rodriguez-Hernandez, 35; Jose Guillermo Uribe Perez, 38; and Enrique Villareal-Varela, 53, were each indicted on one count. Homeland Security Investigations is leading these cases with prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Molly Gordon, Ola Odeyemi, and Larry Fadler.

“An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
