Wayne F. Fleming, a Wichita resident, was sentenced on Mar. 24 to 120 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine to an undercover police officer.
The case highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to address drug-related offenses and hold offenders accountable, even when they have served time for unrelated state charges.
According to court documents, Fleming, age 41, admitted guilt to one count of distribution of a controlled substance. In May 2021, he sold drugs on several occasions to an undercover officer from the Wichita Police Department. Laboratory analysis by the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center determined that Fleming distributed more than 200 grams of pure methamphetamine during these transactions.
U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said, “Mr. Fleming was federally indicted in 2021, but before a plea agreement was reached, Mr. Fleming went to state prison to serve time for offenses unrelated to the federal case. The Department of Justice doesn’t forget. Not long after his release from a state prison, Mr. Fleming is now an inmate in a federal prison.”
The investigation was conducted by the Wichita Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Andrusak.
Fleming’s sentencing underscores ongoing collaboration between local and federal authorities in prosecuting drug crimes and reinforces consequences for repeat offenders.
